Important! Do not use your commercial size. It is not necessarily the same as your Elenapatternstudio’s size.

The main measurements for choosing the size of the Elenapatternstudio’s patterns

Use the bust circumference measurement to choose the size for top garments (dress, jacket, coat, etc.)

Use the hip circumference measurement to choose the size for bottom garments (pants, skirts, shorts, etc.)

If your bust measurement is 0.5-1.5 cm smaller than the indicated measurement on the pattern (for example 87cm), then choose the bigger size (size 38, which is for bust 88cm); if your measurement is 0.5-1.5 cm bigger, then choose the smaller size (for example for bust measurement 89.5cm choose size 38/bust 88cm).

If your bust measurement is +/-2cm different, then it’s recommended to choose the bigger size for close fitting garments and the smaller size for loose fitting garments with lots of ease. You’ll find all the ease information in the general description of the pattern.

How to take measurements:

  • Wear your undergarments when taking your measurements
  • As an aid, wrap a dimensionally stable tape around your waist and pin the ends together
  • The measurements are taken on top of underwear close to the body, yet not too tigh
  1. Bust: across the widest part of your chest.
  2. Waist: at the waist on bottom of the tape.
  3. Hips: across the widest part of your bottom.
  4. Back length: from the lowest neck vertebra (sticks out a bit) to the lower edge of the tape at the waist.
  5. Front waist length: from the highest point on the shoulder across the bust point to the lower edge of the tape at the waist.
  6. Oblique shoulder height is measured from the middle of the waist to the shoulder point on the right side of the back.
  7. Neck circumference: at the base of your neck.
  8. The width of the chest is measured horizontally above the base of the mammary glands between the verticals, mentally drawn upward from the front corners of the armpits.
  9. Back width: with the arms hanging relaxed at your sides, take the measurement across the shoulder blades between the points where your arms meet the body
  10. Shoulder width: from the base of your neck to the shoulder point

Upper arm circumference is measured with the arm hanging freely. The tape should pass at the level of the armpits along the fullest part of the arm.

Wrist circumference is measured at the thinnest point of the arm.
